Open Letter to Todd Weiler
Dear Senator Weiler,
Human trafficking, sexual abuse of a minor, and sexual exploitation of a minor are the darkest manifestations of evil on the face of the earth. (And this is coming from someone whose day job is stopping genocide.) Anyone involved with these crimes should be in prison for life.
The effects of their evil deeds are usually life-long, and so should be the punishment. It’s a matter of justice. And also, due to the extremely high levels of recidivism, it’s about protecting the next victims.
But not only are you okay with them walking the streets, you are fighting for them to be able to do so anonymously? You would rather protect convicted pedophiles from people knowing what they did, than protect children from it happening to them?
Not on my watch.
You have said that you sponsored SB155 because you keep getting calls asking you to let these guys off of the hook. I don’t know why you know so many pedophiles and human traffickers, but clearly you need to know more victims.
So here’s what’s going to happen. You have eight days to a) withdraw this bill, b) issue a public apology to every victim of child sexual abuse who has been re-victimized by your even proposing this bill, and c) promise to never re-introduce this bill again.
If you choose to persist in protecting pedophiles, starting next Saturday, February 8, I will have your entire neighborhood wallpapered with fliers about what you are doing. Each flyer will include the story of one victim of child sexual abuse.
But not just next Saturday. We will drop a new flyer with a new story every single day and twice on Sundays until the end of the session.
To be clear, this is not about defeating the bill. That is going to happen anyway. This is about you apologizing and promising never to introduce the bill again. It’s about letting the victims feel seen and like they actually matter.
As it happens, several of these monsters terrorized my neighborhood in Fruit Heights when I was a kid. So I started a group of Fruit Heights girls to help prosecute one of these sick freaks. I now have a group of 95 women who are desperate for justice. The court case keeps getting delayed, so serving as boots on the ground to let all of your neighbors know what you are doing will provide an outlet for their anger toward the system that failed all of us.
So DO NOT DOUBT that I can get the job done–every single day and twice on Sundays.
But wait, there’s more! If you don’t happen to care that your neighbors know what you are doing, and you still have not apologized and promised to never re-introduce this bill after ten days of flyers, starting on February 18th we will launch a social media campaign to tell the whole world what you are doing. The storyboard for the YouTube videos write themselves.
We will show victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse, tearfully telling their stories, with photos of you and their perpetrators side by side. I’ll re-hire the guy who narrated this video for me to read Matthew 18:6. For the hashtag, I’m thinking #PedoPalTODD
Mr. Weiler, your bill has awoken a sleeping giant. I’d rather spend my time fighting genocidal dictators abroad, but I will not abide this evil in my own backyard. I don’t know why you have decided to fight for the dark side, but I can promise that I will not let you succeed.
Most sincerely,
